Embedding Espresso content into a community homepage
DB Primary – Embedding Espresso Video
Espresso video can now easily be displayed in DB Primary ‐ there are a few steps to follow, and once you have done it once or twice it will become second nature. That means you will be able to create lesson plans and extension work for your pupils within DB Primary and incorporate Espresso video(s) directly into the work – and your pupils will be able to use it, whether they are at school or at home.
The ‘embed media’ feature allows you to link to a video on an ‘out of school’ Espresso server. So, by using the ʹembed code’, you are not actually uploading the large video file into DB Primary, you are only pointing to where it can be found through a simple click. When using Espresso video in‐school with a whole class we would recommend that you use the ‘Page link’ option (available under the ʹuse videoʹ button) to link directly to the Espresso page located on your school server.
1. First of all you will need to open Espresso and navigate to the video you would like to embed into DB Primary. Once you have chosen a video click on the ‘use video’ button.
2. You will then see the following options. You need to copy the ‘embed code’, to do this click on the ‘Copy’ button.
3. Open DB Primary and click on ‘Administration’ (on the quick links at the top)
4. From the list of tabs select ‘Communities’ and then click on ‘Create Community’. Type in the ‘Community Name’ and then click ‘Create’.
5. You have now created your ‘Community’. You will be taken to the community Administration area. Once you have completed creating your community click on the Community in the tool bar at the top of the page to start designing your homepage,
6. Click to start designing the page and choose 'Advanced Editor'.
7. On the ‘Design Page’ select the 'Embed media' button‘.
8. Paste in the ‘embed code’ we copied earlier (use CTRL + V) and then click ‘OK'.
9. Click ‘Save'.
10. That’s it; you have managed to embed an Espresso video into DB Primary! This will be listed in your ‘Communities’ on your ‘Homepage’.
