Content Creation
The content creation tool will allow a user to directly create files and documents in a community gallery, or a pupil in their "My Work" area.
The following content can be created:
- Document - A document containing text, similar to an online word processor.
- Drawing - A drawing using the online drawing tool.
- Video - A short video can be recorded using an attached webcam.
- Snapshot - A still image can be taken using an attached webcam.
- Sound clip - A sound file can be recorded using a connected microphone.
Document
Unlimited Text and Smileys can be used to create a text based document.
1. Log in and either navigate to a Community Gallery or to "My Work" area.
2. Click on New and select Document
3. You can now type int he text of your document, change the font, size, colour, style (such as bold and underline) and add smileys.
4. Click Save' to save your document. You will now see the document in My Work or the community gallery depending on where you created it.
Drawing
Within this area users can produce a drawing using shape elements,changing colour, sketching, increasing and decreasing paintbrush sizes or using the 'paint fill' function. The buttons: Clear, Undo and Redo allow the user to amend the newly created drawing.
This new feature is only available in browsers that support css3, for example; Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer 9. If users are using IE 7 or 8 then the old drawing tool will be displayed.
1. Log in and either navigate to a Community Gallery (if logged in as a leader) or to "My Work" area.
2. Click on New and select Drawing
3. You will now see one of the screens below depending on Key Stage.
Starter Drawing Tool
Key Stage 1 children will be able to flip between two pallets of colours by clicking the colour circle at the bottom of the pallet. Click [[1]] to watch a short video on the new paint tool.
Just like any other painting package, children are able to draw lines, squares, circles, free hand paint or felt tip pen, spray can and fill. The children will be able to change the size of the brush by sliding the button left to right.
Improver/Teacher Drawing Tool
Key Stage 2 children and teachers have all the same features as the starter children but the layout looks a lot more grown up and they will be able to use the pipette icon
to get a colour from somewhere else on the page. This could be used to then replicate the same colours using the more advanced paint pallet.
This tool also enables the user to open any image file such as a photograph, and by clicking on 'edit' be able to paint over the top or amend the picture.
4. Click Save to save your drawing. You will now see the drawing in My Work or the community gallery depending on where you created it.
Video
Video content can be created directly in the My Work or community gallery area from a connected webcam.
1. Log in and either navigate to a Community Gallery or to "My Work" area.
2. Click on New and select Video
3. Once you see the webcam picture on the screen, click on record to record your video. When you have finished, click on stop. You can prieview your video by clicking play.
4. Once you are happy with your video, click Save to save it.
Snapshot
A still photograph can be taken from your webcam and saved directly to the My Work folder or community gallery.
1. Log in and either navigate to a Community Gallery or to "My Work" area.
2. Click on New and select Snapshot
3. Once you have the picture of the camera on screen with your webcam picture, click on the Red button on the camera to take the picture.
4. Click on Save to save your image.
Sound Clip
1. Log in and either navigate to a Community Gallery or to "My Work" area.
2. Click on New and select Sound Clip
3. Make sure your microphone is connected and then click onto the Red record button.
4. When you have finished recording your clip, press the stop button followed by Save
Link to another page or site
You can create a link to another page or website by selecting Link from the New Button whilst in a community gallery or your own gallery/my files
1. Click New Link
2. Give the link a name (This is what will show in your gallery)
3. Add the actual web address for the link
4. Click on the Save button to save your link
Your link will now display in the gallery
4. You can either click save at this point or add an image to represent your link.
Add image to a link
Once you have entered the details for your link, you can either Upload and image or Browse your gallery for an existing image.
Click Save and your link will appear in the galley with the name you gave it and the optional image if you uploaded one.
NB For best results make your uploaded image square with approximately 100 x 100 pixels
Editing Content
Text documents which have been created online can also be edited.
1. Go to "My Work" area and find the document you want to edit. 2. Click on the document to display the options applicable to it.
You will now see a preview of the document with the available options applicable to it.
3. Click Edit 4. This will take you into edit mode where you can make changes to the document.
5. Click Save to save the changed you have made.
