How to change the look of your school login screen
Adding a background image
As superadmin, you can change the login screen for your school. Visit the school tab of the Administration area:
Select Upload and browse for an image to set as a background:
Changing your login theme
You can choose to change your login theme. On the school tab again, select your choice from the dropdown next to Login Theme:
Below shows an example where the user has uploaded their own background image and chosen the transparent glass theme as an overlay:
Starter+ Login Theme
You can also choose the Starter+ login theme by selecting "Starter+ Classic" from the dropdown next to Login Theme:
The example below shows the Starter+ themed login page.
Setting up Picture Login
A picture login option may be useful for the younger pupils or for pupils with special educational needs.
The children will select up to five pictures in the correct order.
As well as clicking with the mouse, the pictures can also be selected using the numbers on the right of your keyboard. Press 'Num Lock' to activate the number keypad:
To confirm the choices click on the tick to the right to login:
To change the login theme for an individual, visit the Accounts view of the Administration area, locate the pupil and click on the pencil to the right of their name:
In the password area of the account settings screen you can choose either the normal alphanumeric login option or pictures theme.
Having chosen the pictures option, select either animals or fruit and click on between one and five pictures to save as your password:
Click on save changes to confirm your choices.
To edit the login details for more than one account at a time, use the Edit multiple feature.
Methods of accessing the picture login page
The picture login screen can be accessed through either a unique url or by entering the username on the usual login screen. The most suitable method to access the picture login screen will depend on your pupils' needs and your school setup.
Access through the usual login screen
Pupils that have been assigned the picture login theme can simply enter their username and click on 'login'
They will then be taken to their picture login screen.
Creating desktop shortcuts, favourites/bookmarks for your pupils
You can also provide a direct link to the login page in the forum of a desktop shortcut or favourite (Internet Explorer) or Bookmark (Firefox) in the browser menu. This will be a direct link to the user's homepage. Clicking on this link will override the need for entering a username and take the user directly to the password entry screen. You may want to create a number of shortcuts for individual pupils.
Creating desktop shortcuts
To set up a desktop shortcut using a PC, use the following steps:
1. First copy the homepage address of the pupil. This can be accessed from the Accounts view of the administration screen by clicking on their avatar:
2. When you are on their homepage, copy the url from the web address bar at the top of the screen:
3. To create a shortcut on your PC desktop, right click and select 'New' then 'Shortcut':
4. Paste the web address into the dialogue box that appears:
5. Click on next and enter the child's name:
6. Your shortcut will now appear on the desktop:
Creating bookmarks (Firefox) or Favourites (Internet Explorer)
Use the following steps to create shortcuts on your browswer menus:
Firefox
1. Click on Bookmarks on the menu bar, then 'Bookmark this page':
Now name and save your bookmark:
Internet Explorer
1. Click on Favourites, then 'Add to Favourites':
2. Name your Favourite and click add:
How to log in using your Google or Yahoo account
It is possible to log into your portal using your Google or Yahoo username and password. Before doing this you need to set up your portal to associate your email address with your DB Primary account.
Setting up your portal
- Log into your account as normal.
- Once logged in click on My Settings on your Quick Links toolbar:
- In the user details section, enter your GMAIL or YAHOO email address.
- Click the box for Only use email address for authentication
- Click on Save Changes to save your email.
Your portal is now set up for login using both your DB Primary username and password and your Gmail/Yahoo username and password.
Using open id to log in with Gmail/Yahoo credentials
In order to use openid, you will need to log in from a slightly different web address.
- Go to your usual address to log into your school
- When you see the login screen, replace the word login with openid
See below for where to change this, Note: The first part of the url will relate to your school and the only word which needs changing is login after /service/util

YOU MAY BOOKMARK THIS PAGE AT THIS POINT
You have three choices here.
1. Log in with your normal DB Primary username and password.
2. Log in with your Google username and password
3. Log in with your Yahoo username and password.
N.B. Options 2 & 3 require that you have previously entered your google/yahoo email address into your portal

You will automatically be taken to your homepage once you have correctly entered your details.
When you log out from the portal, you will be taken back to the openid login screen.
If you have multiple portals with the same email address attached for example if you are superadmin and have your own individual account, you will be given the choice of which account to go to after login.
