DB Primary includes a built Quiz tool which allows you to quickly create assessment modules using new, existing or third party questions with which to test your students. With powerful sharing and networking tools available it is possible to access content created by any teachers using DB Primary, no matter where they are located.
Creating Quiz Questions
Creating new questions (including Ordering questions, Multiple Answer Multiple Choice Questions and Multiple Answer Single Choice Questions)
- Login to your DB Primary account
- Ensure that you have logged on as a teacher with the administration rights required to proceed.
If you have an existing Community then click to view it. The below page will be displayed.
- Once selected you will have a choice of question types this help file will focus on three types of questions please review the part on the relevant question type to continue.
- Questions can be put into different sections for example, you may want to have different levels of questions or use different question types. (when you create a quiz a new “default section” is created) Select the New Question button; this will take you to a new Question page.
There are ten question types overall with seven available, the unavailable question types have an outline circle that cannot be selected. (These will become available shortly) In this example the “Ordering” Question Types is selected.
Click on the Question Type that you would like to learn more about to navigate to that section.
An Ordering question is where the drag and drop functionality is used by the pupil to correctly place a sequence of answers in a predefined order.
A Multi Answer Multiple Choice question is where in response to a question (that may include an image) the pupil chooses from multiple answers; several answers are made available and two or more are correct.
A Single Answer Multiple Choice question is where in response to a question (that may include an image) the pupil chooses from multiple answers; several answers are made available but only one is correct.
A Text Entry question presents pupils with a question followed by a text box in which they enter the answer.
A Match question is where a list of sub-questions is provided, along with a list of answers. The pupil must then "match" the correct answers with each question.
An Inline Choice question is where pupils have a missing word/s in a phrase or sentence provided by you, in place of the missing word is a drop down menu with a list of choices
A Gap Match question is where the pupil is given a statement or phrase with words missing the answers are presented in a simple grid allowing the pupil to select the right answer for the missing element of the sentence.
To create an ordering question
- Select the Ordering Question Type from the list by clicking on the white circle next to the word “Ordering”.
1. The name of the question type will appear in the header section of the “Question Creation” page.
2. Enter “Your Question” in the text box provided.
3. Enter a Question Prompt in the field provided.
4. Start entering the answers to “Your Question” all answers should be correct.
5. You can add as many answers as you require
6. Select the amount of Marks you would like associated with this “Your Question” by clicking on the up and down arrows.
7. Click on the green Next arrow to navigate to the next section.
8. Next you will be able to “Tag” your question. There are four main areas with sub sections depending on the questions relevance to each. They are Cross Curricular Skills, Keystage, National Curriculum Specifiers and or School Year.
By tagging your question you are making it easier to find and reuse at a later date. If you choose not to Tag your question then click on Skip to move to the next section.
9.At the “Activity Summary” page you are asked to review and Save the question. If you are unhappy with any aspect of the question you are able to click on the back button to get to the appropriate section to make changes. Clicking the save button will save your question and take you to the admin page for your quiz.
To create an Multi Answer Multiple Choice question
1. Select the Multi Answer Multiple Choice Question Type from the list by clicking on the white circle next to the words “Multi Answer Multiple Choice”.
2. The name of the question type will appear in the header section of the “Question Creation” page.
3. Enter “Your Question” in the text box provided.
4. Enter a Question Prompt in the field provided.
5. Start entering the answers to “Your Question” two or more answers should be correct.
6. You can add as many answers as you require
7. Select the amount of Marks you would like associated with this “Your Question” by clicking on the up and down arrows.
8. Click on the green Next arrow to navigate to the next section.
9. Next you will be able to “Tag” your question. There are four main areas with sub sections depending on the questions relevance to each. They are Cross Curricular Skills, Keystage, National Curriculum Specifiers and or School Year.
10. By tagging your question you are making it easier to find and reuse your question at a later date. If you choose not to Tag your question then click on Skip to move to the next section.
11. At the “Activity Summary” page you are asked to review and Save the question. If you are unhappy with any aspect of the question you are able to click on the back button to get to the appropriate section to make changes. Clicking the save button will save your question and take you to the admin page for your quiz.
To create an single Answer Multiple Choice question
1. Select the Single Answer Multiple Choice Question Type from the list by clicking on the white circle next to the word “Single Answer Multiple Choice”.
2. The name of the question type will appear in the header section of the “Question Creation” page.
3. Enter “Your Question” in the text box provided.
4. Enter a Question Prompt in the field provided.
5. Start entering the answers to “Your Question” all answers should be correct.
6. You can add as many answers as you require
7. Select the amount of Marks you would like associated with this “Your Question” by clicking on the up and down arrows.
8. Click on the green Next arrow to navigate to the next section.

To create an Text Entry question
1. Select the Text Entry Question Type from the list by clicking on the white circle next to the word “Text Entry”.
2. The name of the question type will appear in the header section of the “Question Creation” page.
3. Enter “Your Question” in the text box provided.
4. Enter a Question Prompt in the field provided.
5. Start entering the answer to “Your Question” all words need to be exact to enable the pupil get the right answer.
6. You can add as many variations to your answer as you require.
7. Select the amount of Marks you would like associated with this “Your Question” by clicking on the up and down arrows.
8.Click on the green Next arrow to navigate to the next section.
9.Next you will be able to “Tag” your question. There are four main areas with sub sections depending on the questions relevance to each. They are Cross Curricular Skills, Keystage, National Curriculum Specifiers and or School Year.

To create an Inline Choice question
1. Select the Inline Choice Question Type from the list by clicking on the white circle next to the words “Inline Choice”.
2. The name of the question type will appear in the header section of the “Question Creation” page.
3. Enter “Your Question” in the text box provided.
4. Enter the complete text correctly in the field provided.
5. Click on update to save the text you have created.
6. Select the key word you would like to use, once selected a dotted outline will appear.
7. Select the amount of Marks you would like associated with this “Your Question” by clicking on the up and down arrows.
8. You can add as many options for your chosen word as you need.
9. Click on the green Next arrow to navigate to the next section.
10. Next you will be able to “Tag” your question. There are four main areas with sub sections depending on the questions relevance to each. They are Cross Curricular Skills, Keystage, National Curriculum Specifiers and or School Year.

11. At the “Activity Summary” page you are asked to review and Save the question. If you are unhappy with any aspect of the question you are able to click on the back button to get to the appropriate section to make changes. To create a Gap Match question
1. Select the Gap Match Question Type from the list by clicking on the white circle next to the word “Gap Match”.
2. The name of the question type will appear in the header section of the “Question Creation” page.
3. Enter “Your Question” in the text box provided.
4. Enter a Question Prompt in the field provided.
5. Start entering the text or phrase to “Your Question” all text should be correct.
6. You can add as many gap match words as you require by clicking on each word in the text.
7. Select the amount of Marks you would like associated with each Gap Match word.
8. Click on the green Next arrow to navigate to the next section.
9. Next you will be able to “Tag” your question. There are four main areas with sub sections depending on the questions relevance to each. They are Cross Curricular Skills, Keystage, National Curriculum Specifiers and or School Year.
10. By tagging your question you are making it easier to find and reuse at a later date. If you choose not to Tag your question then click on Skip to move to the next section.

Using Question bank to search for Questions
Including: Adding them to a quiz (search “All Questions” and searching “My Questions”)'
- Go to the quiz where you would like to create the question.
- If the quiz has been previously published, click on “clear responses” before continuing.
- Now you can start using the “Search All Questions” feature.
- Select the down arrow next to “Choose a classification”.
- From the drop down menu select an option
- Select from the categories available to complete your search.
- Review the results and choose your selection.
Setting Quiz properties and Publishing a Quiz
- Login to your DB Primary account.
- Ensure that you have logged on as a teacher with the administration rights required to proceed.
If you have an existing Community then click to view it. The below page will be displayed.
- Click on the
button on the screen that appears to create a new quiz which you can then adjust the properties of and when ready publish.
- To alter the settings of an existing quiz you will need to select the
button if visible before proceeding.
- Once selected you will have a choice of altering the Quiz title, adding an Introduction or an explanation and deciding whether you want a Formative or Summative assessment type.
- By selecting the Publishing Tab you are able to set a start and end time to the Quiz, this will decide when it would be live to pupils and how long for.
- When finished with your selection click on the save button and your choices will be saved.
Publishing your quiz as a task
Once you click on publish you are now asked whether you would like to publish your quiz as a task. Publishing as a task will make it easier for you to keep track of a child's work and let you provide feedback on the task in the form of a grade or comment. Clicking on 'publish' will bring up a dialogue box such as the following example:
Confirming this will take you through to the task set-up walk-through where you will be guided through the stages of setting up the task, starting from entering the task participants.
Publishing your quiz as a task from the task view
It is also possible to create a new quiz task from the Tasks area. First give your task a name, then choose 'Answer Quiz' from the drop down list. Once you have added participants to the task, written instructions and set up any assessment, you will be taken to the quiz creation area where you can start entering your quiz question.
Advanced Options in Cogs view
Click on the cogs at the top right of the quiz view
Here you have further options such as the ability to copy and paste or delete a quiz as shown below.
Quizzes can also be copied between different communities in this way.
